Short description & land use (current/history)

Since fifty years ago, the target region was grazed by large transhumant flocks. Currently, grazing pressure is very low and summit sites are inside a protected area (Majella National Park).

Vegetation boundary lines

in the study area above the beech forest, Pinus mugo and Juniperus alpina are the woody species which reach the alpine belt. They cannot be considered trees so treeline and forestline correspond to beech forest upper limit.
